Single-use plastic items such as straws, bags, and cups have their days numbered in Bermuda (we hope!). Setting out its annual legislative agenda recently, the Bermuda Government has set 2020 as the year Bermuda aims to substantially reduce its single-use plastics usage by introducing a charge with a view to elimination of these items by 2022. At this stage, consciousness-raising has begun, and the initiative itself is still in development.
We know that many other countries are already well on their way to ridding their land and surrounding seas of the scourge of plastics. At the ICNT special session “The Last Straw” we can look forward to “lessons learned” from campaigns implemented to reduce single-use plastic.
